SPOKANE COUNTY, November 2025. For the past 25 years, Spokane Superior Court has been committed to keeping vulnerable members of the community safe from abuse, neglect and exploitation. The Spokane County Superior Court Guardianship Monitoring Program was implemented 25 years ago to improve the Court’s ability to monitor the ongoing care and financial affairs of those under court-supervised guardianships/conservatorships. A guardianship/conservatorship is established for individuals who lack the capacity to make or communicate decisions because of mental or physical disability. In Spokane County, there are over 2,200 individuals subject to a guardianship/conservatorship.
To celebrate the 25-year anniversary of the Guardianship Monitoring Program, the Court is hosting a celebration on December 4, 2025 from noon – 1:00 p.m. The celebration will be held in the Jury Assembly Room located on the third floor of the Courthouse Annex. The public is invited to attend and learn about more about this valuable program.
Judge Rachelle Anderson shared, “We are so proud of the work our Guardianship Monitoring Program does. Our program was the first of its kind in the state, and has been a model for other counties to follow. Twenty-five years is a major milestone, and with the help of the community and ongoing volunteers, we hope to continue this important work for years to come.”
The Guardianship Monitoring Program utilizes trained volunteers in a variety of ways to assist the court in monitoring open and active guardianships/conservatorships in Spokane Superior Court. Volunteers are always needed as records researchers and financial auditors to serve as the eyes and ears of the court to help detect or prevent abuse, neglect, and exploitation of vulnerable individuals.
